Urban Design

Boffa Miskell is an original signatory to the New Zealand Urban Design Protocol and, through this involvement, has made a formal commitment to creating, implementing and monitoring high quality urban design.

At Boffa Miskell, urban design is an inclusive process that is applied at many levels - from strategic urban planning and growth management to the detailed design of public space. It involves analysing urban quality, understanding what makes successful urban spaces and engaging with communities.

Our urban design services include:

  • Urban development strategies and policies at regional, city and local levels;
  • Large-scale design concepts and development plans for new-growth areas, city and town centres and redevelopment sites;
  • Detailed design of public open spaces, pedestrian areas, streetscapes and town/city centre revitalisation;
  • Low impact urban design development for managing soil and water to protect and enhance natural resources.
  • Research studies, e.g. residential intensification, heritage, urban character, pedestrian areas;
  • District plan policies and design guidelines to implement urban design objectives;
