The Boffa Miskell-designed ‘Wetland Waka’ garden is one of 19 finalist entries completed for the May opening of the 2013 World Landscape Art Exposition in Jinzhou, a world-wide design competition run by the International Federation of Landscape Architects and Jinzhou City.
The Wetland Waka garden is centred on a stylised water-purifying wetland traversed by a boardwalk evocative of a Māori waka. The design represents water as the source of life and boats as symbols of travel, journey and family in both Māori and Chinese cultures. The garden will remain a permanent feature in a new 139-hectare public park which is being developed around the Expo site.
