Profile

Claire trained in both landscape architecture and architectural draughting. This combination of skills enables her to integrate a complementary range of landscape and architecture design skills.

Claire has worked in large multi-disciplinary teams on both architecture and landscape architecture projects since 1994 so she has a good understanding of multi-disciplinary co-ordination based on her years’ of professional design experience. Her work includes a range of scales from large rural and urban developments, to site-specific projects including streetscape and public realm design, CBD analysis, commercial developments, parks and reserve design, and planting and revegetation projects.

She has experience in all aspects of the landscape design process from conceptual landscape design, to detailed construction drawings and contract management of project installation. Consequently she has a good practical understanding of construction methods and design detailing.

She has successfully led, managed and implemented large landscape projects, working in multi-disciplinary environments. Claire has a pragmatic and logical approach to achieving efficient and effective landscape design solutions.

Expertise

Project management

Co-ordinating the input of different technical disciplines and managing project development for complex design projects.

Landscape design

Initial conceptual design, master plan, detailed construction and planting design, schedules of quantity, specifications, contract documentation and costings with particular expertise in planting schemes, including contract supervision of implementation works. Landscape design on large through to small-scaled projects, and on different genres, such as ecological / environmental design.

Landscape assessment

Evaluating landscape and visual effects of projects and advising on mitigation, development planning, obtaining resource consents.

Landscape ecology

Identification of appropriate plant species for revegetation and mitigation projects.

Urban design / open space design

Design of public open space in urban environments to provide stimulating, attractive and functional places for people - city centres, streets and plazas, waterfronts, shopping centres and community housing which respond to the natural and cultural landscape. Evaluating community views, pedestrian movement, built form, traffic and parking.

Public consultation and participation

Working with communities, interest groups and stakeholders to facilitate discussion and preferred design outcomes.
