Profile

Simon has over 10 years of experience as a consultant ecologist. He has specialist expertise in native bats, lizards and frogs and a wealth of ecological experience in botany, entomology and ornithology. In recent years, Simon has managed numerous ecological projects such as assessments of environmental effects, designing and implementing programmes to mitigate adverse effects, species translocations, habitat restoration, and monitoring the outcomes of ecological restoration programmes.

Simon joined Boffa Miskell in 2007 and immediately began working on a broad range of projects utilising his unique skill set. From Assessments of Environmental Effects to lizard translocations, bird monitoring to botanical surveys, the results of Simon’s work have been of immense value to many Boffa Miskell clients in both the private and public sectors. Simon also has a strong background in project management and this is a key aspect of his role. He enjoys projects where he has input at the design stage to minimise effects on the environment while creating cost-effective habitat enhancement with long-term ecological benefits.

Simon has particular interest in herpetofauna (reptiles and amphibians) and is recognised as being among New Zealand’s leading professional herpetologists. He is now at the forefront of research, development and application of innovative techniques to survey, monitor and manage native herpetofauna.
