Profile

William has an academic and practical background in landscape architecture and fine arts. His training and experience in both fields provides an excellent background for landscape design and landscape assessment. William is particularly interested in contemporary landscape design that integrates the natural and cultural heritage of specific landscapes and gardens with the current requirements of clients.

William's design experience includes public places such as hospital grounds, a university campus and civic building settings as well as garden design for houses of architectural and historical significance. He has also prepared landscape assessments for the Otago Regional Council, Kaikoura District Council and private sector projects.

Landscape design

Conceptual design, master planning, detailed construction and planting design, schedules of quantity, specifications, contract documentation and costings.

Landscape assessment

Preparing landscape assessments for resource consent applications including assessments of environmental effects and evidence for consent hearings, at regional, district and project-based scales.

Urban design

Designing urban environments to provide stimulating, attractive and functional places for people - city centres, streets and plazas, water fronts, shopping centres, community housing. Evaluating community views, pedestrian movement, built form, traffic and parking.

Visual simulations

Providing visual simulations of unbuilt developments for promotion or as evidence in assessing the effects on the environment for resource consents.

Computer aided design

Producing site plans and working drawings with specialised computer software.

Public consultation

Working with communities, interest groups and stakeholders to facilitate discussion and positive outcomes through design and conflict resolution.

Construction supervision

Overseeing the construction of design projects, liaising with clients and contractors, overseeing costings and job completion.

Site planning

Advising on site selection and providing functional site layouts that are creatively responsive to the special features of the site and the specific requirements of the client.

Graphic communication

Preparing plans, simulations and illustrations of high graphic quality for client presentations, reports and evidence at planning hearings.
