Let’s Get Wellington Moving takes a big step forward

28 June 2021

A preferred option for Wellington's Golden Mile has been selected.

Part of the wider Let’s Get Wellington Moving (LGWM) programme, the Golden Mile project is set to transform four key central city streets — Courtenay Place, Lambton Quay, Willis and Manners Streets — in order to prioritise public transport, active travel and create a comfortable, attractive place for people to walk, shop, socialise and spend time.

The LGWM partners announced they had selected the most radical option for revamping the Golden Mile – which actually runs for 1.5 miles – after public support for the move.

The business case for the overall project will now be finalised ahead of a year of detailed design work.

Boffa Miskell contributed to urban design, landscape architecture and CPTED review and public engagement material for the Business Case, as part of FutureGroup (a consortium of Stantec, Jasmax, WSP and Boffa Miskell).

LGWM is a partnership between Waka Kotahi, the Wellington City Council and the Greater Wellington Regional Council.
