Using GIS Technology to gain Resource Consent

23 August 2021

Our client wanted to build an 8-lot residential hamlet, but it was important to preserve the amenity of the outstanding landscape.

Paekakariki Hill Road, on the Kapiti Coast is one of New Zealand’s most beautiful coastal drives. So, when our client wanted to build an 8-lot residential hamlet, it was essential that the outstanding natural landscape not be compromised.

Boffa Miskell landscape planners assisted our client in gaining resource consent by demonstrating that the proposed sites were not visible from the town of Paekakariki, or from the adjoining dwellings in the valley behind.

Boffa Miskell’s technical services team used GIS software to better evaluate the likely visibility of the proposed structures from surrounding areas.

The viewshed analysis model was presented to Council planners and landscape architects to show them that development could successfully move forward within the development and earthworks restrictions of Council’s planning rules; and Council granted a non-notified consent.
