Boffa Miskell Joins MPI’s Biosecurity New Zealand Plant Pass Partners Programme

Taking a proactive step in strengthening biosecurity practices across Aotearoa’s plant supply chain.

Biosecurity is a foundation for ecological resilience. From native revegetation to urban greening, the health of our landscapes depends on the integrity of the plants we source and the systems that support them.

That’s why Boffa Miskell is now a Plant Pass Partner, joining a growing network of organisations committed to lifting biosecurity standards across Aotearoa New Zealand. The Plant Pass certification scheme is a Government Industry Agreement (GIA) partnership that supports good biosecurity practice in plant production to protect the economy and environment from the spread of pests and pathogens.

Boffa Miskell is the first design-based multi-disciplinary consulting firm to join the Plant Pass Partners Programme.

Biosecurity consultant Pete Caldwell says, "This is an opportunity to demonstrate our company-wide commitment to good biosecurity practice and reducing the spread of weeds and pathogens in Aotearoa."

Our landscape architectural and ecology teams will encourage both clients and plant suppliers to support nurseries that are, or in the process of getting, Plant Pass registered and certified. The programme is designed to be low-barrier and well-supported, making it easier for nurseries to adopt best-practice biosecurity measures.

Landscape architect Gabe Ross says, "As one of the few environmental design firms in Aotearoa with dedicated ecology and biosecurity teams, this partnership is a natural fit. We can assure our clients and project partners that the plants we specify for landscape and ecological restoration projects are sourced responsibly."

Community planting days like this one, at Te Auaunga | Oakley Creek, are often part of our design and ecology projects.
