The project team was involved in consultation with local residents to explore options for rebuilding damaged roads and making them more attractive and safe. Achieving enhanced streetscapes through good urban and landscape design involved consideration of:

  • Streets as ‘Places’
  • Road widths appropriate for low-speed residential areas
  • Better pedestrian and cycle routes and crossings
  • Walking and cycling linkages
  • Enhancements through landscape treatment
  • Interaction between streets and parks

This project was part of the wider earthquake recovery programme undertaken by the Waimakariri District Council.
