A high-quality residential neighbourhood of mixed housing types and densities in Orewa
Kensington Park, a residential development on the former Puriri Holiday Park site, was at the time the only large area of land zoned high density residential in the Orewa township.
Kensington Park is a high quality, integrated, master planned residential community that aims to create a unique design style. By carefully managing intensification, it seeks to cater to a diverse market with a quality neighbourhood environment.
Boffa Miskell was engaged to develop the original master plan and provide on-going project consenting services.
The master plan, developed in partnership with Kensington Properties, provides for a range of housing typologies from standalone houses to duplex, terrace and multiple forms of apartment buildings. It also allows for limited commercial and ancillary facilities. Pedestrian priority has been established through connections to Nukamea Stream reserve, Orewa Beach and neighbouring streets and reserves. A Millenium Trail has also been incorporated and protected in perpetuity.
A successful feature of Kensington Park was the consenting case management approach adopted by Rodney District Council. Boffa Miskell planners enjoyed a co-operative relationship with Council enabling all parties to anticipate and resolve issues as the development unfolded.
Boffa Miskell led the development of the initial master plan, achieved the plan change and a series of subsequent consents for the early stages of development at Kensington Park. In particular this included protecting the sites’ magnificent Puriri trees and leading with the provision of high quality open space as a key amenity for the higher density residential environment.
