Amelia Platje

With experience across the public realm, ecological restoration, community infrastructure, and master planning projects in both New Zealand and Australia. My work is driven by a commitment to creating resilient landscapes that strengthen the relationship between people, place, and the natural environment. Through a combination of design thinking, landscape narrative, and ecological planning, I seek to deliver places that respond to contemporary environmental challenges while supporting thriving communities.

Before practical experience in the industry, I completed a Master of Landscape Architecture at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington. My thesis explored how youth stewardship, education networks, and participatory design approaches can contribute to the long-term restoration of urban waterways. Focusing on the Kaiwharawhara Catchment in Wellington, the research developed design strategies for reconnecting communities with urban streams while enhancing ecological health and environmental literacy.

My professional experience has included work on public open spaces, green corridors, social infrastructure, multi-sport precincts, restoration planting, water-sensitive design initiatives, and community-focused landscape projects. I have contributed across concept design, documentation, visual communication, and stakeholder engagement processes, bringing a collaborative and environmentally responsive approach to projects.

Alongside practice, I have contributed to landscape architecture education as an academic tutor, and I have supported research into nature-based solutions and climate-responsive design. I am particularly interested in ecological restoration, catchment-scale thinking, planting design, community resilience, and landscape-led approaches that create meaningful social and environmental outcomes.
