Kaitohu Whakaurunga | Engagement Advisor
Kaiarataki Matua | Senior Professional
With over a decade of experience as an engagement, communications and facilitation specialist working across arts, education and community settings, my practice centres around creating spaces for people to share their stories through conversations, workshops and creative engagement opportunities. I am passionate about connecting people to place and have extensive experience shaping community through activated public spaces, from museums, galleries and libraries to schools, business places and arts centres.
After beginning my career in London, I spent many years working internationally before moving to Aotearoa New Zealand in 2018. Most recently, I managed a dynamic community hub in Wellington, supporting the community through events, workshops and place-based activations. Alongside this, I was an education director for a national poetry organisation and contracted for a range of organisations as a facilitator, writer and engagement specialist, most recently for Boffa on the High Street Improvement Project.
I now support the growing engagement team on a range of projects, bringing the public along on the journey and inviting them to contribute to change processes. I specialise in accessible communication, translating technical information for a wide audience and designing and delivering impactful, collaborative engagement. I am passionate about giving people a voice and building relationships through creative approaches. Skilled in holding challenging conversations and managing complex dynamics, I help bridge technical expertise with empowered communities to create meaningful change.
