Urban design

Understanding the complex nature of cities, settlements and communities at different scales and across the range of contributing disciplines to inform strategy, policy and built outcomes and realise quality environments for future living.

Each place, the people in it, and the purpose of change through design is different. We respond to these influences to provide vital, attractive and functional public places for people. Our urban designers are underpinned by Te Ao Māori and community perspectives, reflecting our deep commitment to people, the land and our increasingly urban context. We believe that partnering with clients and mana whenua, and collaboration with stakeholders and communities results in inclusive and equitable places, reflective of our associations with place and ready for the future.

Our urban designers come from a spectrum of backgrounds and work at a range of scales and areas of focus including spatial planning and integration of built form, movement networks, green networks and public space.

We understand urban design as the collaborative and multi-disciplinary process of creating more sustainable and liveable environments for people. The combined skills of our urban designers, planners, landscape architects, and ecologists result in solutions tailored to the unique context of each place.

We seek integrated solutions that deliver multiple co-benefits at the scale and pace required to adapt our urban areas to a fast-changing climate. This approach supports functional and high-quality built environments for people, with enduring value to current and future generations.
